How to get urine smell out of carpet

Someone made a mess of your carpet? We can help.

Oh dear!

I am not sure what’s had you land on this page but you’re obviously not finding yourself in a glamorous position right here. Don’t worry, we can help you by teaching you how to get urine smell out of carpet.

The method is really pretty simple. So long as you have plenty of Baking Soda on hand then it won’t be long until you’re out of this mess.

How to get Urine Smell out of Carpet

Step 1: If there is still Urine on the carpet make sure to remove as much as possible

You’ll need something very absorbant to lay over the spill so that it soaks up all the urine from the carpet.

I recommend:
Which ever you choose from the above just make sure to send it straight to the laundry. You don’t want that laying around your kitchen or bathroom.

Step 2: Liberally apply Baking Soda to the Urine Spot

What is Baking Soda?

Sodium bicarbonate is the fancy name for Baking soda. Baking soda is an alkaline white powder
It is a naturally occurring mineral that is used commonly in households for cleaning and baking.
Supermarkets sell Baking Soda in the cooking section (and not so commonly the cleaning section), however it is often sold in small packages for cooking. For cleaning I recommend buying bigger 1 lb or greater sizes.

Tried the above and carpet still smells?

The sad reality is that you may need to invest in professional carpet cleaning.
Some carpet piles will hold smells for longer than other varieties of carpet. If you have tried the neutralising approach of Baking Soda above (and I mean REALLY tried) then moving on to a professional carpet cleaner like a steam cleaner or similar is probably the only move that you have left – without replacing that carpet of course.
If you live in a safe neighbourhood I would also recommend leaving your windows open for a day or so, in almost every room in the house as this will help to circulate air and keep the smell moving.
Feeling sorry for yourself right now? Don’t feel too bad. One of the most hit articles I have ever written is on ‘How to get dog diarrhoea out of carpet‘ – I speak from experience when I say that is a much worse situation 😆
